The Mekong Delta Region consists of 13 provinces and cities (Can Tho, Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, An Giang, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau). The region has strategic geographic – economic – politic location with over 700 km of coastal land and large exclusive economic zone, and is also the national center for agricultural production and aquaculture farming.
On 27 December 2012, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 8054/QD-BCT on approving the “Power Development Plan for Mekong Delta Region up to 2020, with Outlook to 2025” prepared by the Institute of Energy.
