In the morning of 24th July 2017, General Directorate of Energy held a technical conference to review the Energy Statistic Year book 2015 prepared by Institute of Energy.
The conference was chaired by Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Director of Department of Technology, Science and Energy Efficiency, General Directorate of Energy (GDE). This study is under the periodic working plan of Vietnam Energy Efficiency Country Office and normally funded by the State Bugdet. But the publication for the year 2015 is financed by Denmark Embassy through the Low carbon transition in Energy Efficiency (LCEE) program.
Energy statistics refers to collecting, compiling, analyzing and disseminating data on commodities such as coal, crude oil, natural gas, electricity, or renewable energy sources (biomass, geothermal, wind or solar energy), when they are used for the energy they contain. This work is more and more important in order to support management, operation, planning, study activities related to Energy.
Since the first publication was prepared by IE in 2008, and managed by GDE, IE sets up focal points for data providing in various agencies, including General Departments and Energy Corporations.
The IE study team gains support from the national statistical system, especially Statistical year book of Vietnam and National Enterprise Survey which are conducted every year by General Statistics Office.
From those, the team not only compiles energy flows at supply and transformation sides but also estimates energy use at the demand side at high reliability.
The team received comments regarding contents and format to the previous publications. Therefore, the publication always changes year by year.
Compared with the year 2014, the publication 2015 has added statistics on power reliability and dioxide emission.
However the format of energy commodity and energy balance tables always complies with international standards, such as with International Energy Agency and APEC.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Trinh Quốc Vu highly appreciates the publication despite of pointing out several issues. He also recommends the team providing more detail on overall review and small hydro which were done well at previous publications.
On behalf of IE’s team, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung thanks recommendations from Mr. Vu and other participants. He emphasizes that the team selected year 2015 as the base year for development of National Energy Master plan. The publication has a higher accuracy than previous, especially at Demand side.
The publication is provided free-of-charge under PDF format, and the team always receives and responds to any comment through email thongkenangluong.vn@gmail.com, Dr. Hung said.
