Institute of Energy is a Science & Technology Research Organization, established on 1 January 1989 according to the Decision No. 1379 NL/TCCB Dated 05 December 1988 by the Ministry of Energy (now Ministry of Industry and Trade) based on the merger of the Energy and Electrification Institute and Electric Power Research Institute.
From 01 April 1995, Institute of Energy became a member unit of Electricity of Vietnam Corporation (Now Electricity of Vietnam Group). From 01 July 2007, Institute of Energy has been operating in the form of self-control, self-responsibility according to the Governmental Decree No. 115/2005/ND-CP.
After 15 years of being member of Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN), Institute of Energy has been shifted to direct management of Ministry of Industry and Trade since 01 January 2010 according to the Decision No. 5999/QD-BCT by Minister of Industry and Trade.
With more than 20 years of development, Institute of Energy became leading national research institution where the national energy strategies are originated. The Institute carried out research on science and technology issues, development and application of many scientific themes, contributing to strong development of Vietnam Energy sector. Nowadays, name of Institute of Energy is widely well known in Vietnam and abroad. The Institute is honored to be granted by the Government with many valuable awards: 3rd Class Independence Medal; 3rd, 2nd and 1st Class Labor Medals; governmental emulation flags and many science and technology prizes.
For operation in scientific and technology research, provision of consultancy services, testing and inspecting of electrical equipments, production and business, Institute of Energy has full legal status as follows:
– Science and Technology Registration Certificate No. A-041 dated 24 June 2008 by Ministry of Science and Technology.
– License on Operation in Power sector No. 1697/GP-BCN dated 15 May 2007 by Ministry of Industry (now Ministry of Industry and Trade).
– The business registration certificate of the science and technology institution No. 0109000010 dated 06 August 2007, issued by Planning and Investment Department of Hanoi city.
Capability and facilities
The Institute has 11 departments and 4 centers and one key laboratory for high voltage techniques, with 210 employees, of which, 9 Doctors, 57 Masters, 111 university graduated, engineers. Professional staffs have experience and high professional skills, mastering foreign languages, IT skills, meeting requirements and duties of the Institute.
Laboratories of Institute of Energy include:
• Hydraulic model testing laboratory: For researching and testing hydraulic models serving design, construction, operation management works of hydropower plant projects in Vietnam and some neighboring countries in the region.
• Lightning research laboratory: Carrying out research on thunderstorm, lightning actions throughout the whole country.
• Key laboratory for high voltage techniques: With advanced equipment for testing electrical materials and equipments at voltage level up to 750 kV.
• Renewable energy laboratory: with testing yard for wind, solar energy; experimenting facilities for biogas and residential cooking fuels.
• Thermo-mechanical and chemico-environmental laboratory: Serving research on equipments of thermal power plants, design of power plants and environmental impact assessment.
